Hazlebeck Has Your BACK
About David Hazlebeck
I believe leadership starts with listening and putting people first. John 15:13 reminds us, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." Serving our community means sacrifice, including significant time away from my wife and our young children (ages 5, 3, and 1), something I never take lightly. This calling is worth the sacrifice because the future we build together today will shape the Kauaʻi our children and grandchildren call home.
My approachable and authentic nature shows I'm always ready to listen to your ideas and insights. As President of my family’s small business, I lead a team of 25, including scientists and engineers with advanced degrees, where my role is to listen, bring people together, and find common-sense solutions. I look forward to meeting many new friends throughout our community during the campaign and learning from your experiences to help draft practical bills that make sense for the people of Kauaʻi.
David Hazlebeck's Core Values
'Ohana
Strong families make strong communities.
Every policy I support will put families first. Too often, families are overlooked in government decisions, but on Kauaʻi, ʻohana is at the heart of who we are. My commitment is to support policies that help families thrive so parents can raise their children here, care for their loved ones, and build a stable future together.
Family is also central to my own life. When people ask what I enjoy most about working at Global Algae, my answer is simple: I get to work alongside my family every single day, and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.
By supporting families, we strengthen the bonds that make Kauaʻi such a special place to live, work, and raise the next generation.
'Āina
We can live in abundance while supporting people AND the land.
ʻĀina is more than land, it is what sustains us. Every policy I support will reflect a commitment to protecting our natural resources while ensuring our community can thrive. Sustainability is essential on islands like Kauaʻi, where ecosystems are delicate and resources are limited.
My family has been farming algae on Kauaʻi since 2010, working at the intersection of agriculture, science, and environmental stewardship. Our company was honored with an XPRIZE Carbon Removal Milestone Award, recognizing innovative work that helps restore habitats and reduce carbon emissions.
As an algae farmer, I understand firsthand the responsibility we share to mālama ʻāina, to care for and protect the land that sustains us. It is our duty to safeguard Kauaʻi’s natural beauty and resources so future generations can live, work, and thrive here.
Lōkahi
Together, we can work towards a better future for all.
Lōkahi means unity, bringing people together in harmony to serve the common good. In today’s world, politics has become increasingly divisive, but our community deserves leaders who listen to every voice and work across differences to find common-sense solutions.
This commitment to unity is one of the main reasons I decided to run for office. I’ve always valued friendships across the political spectrum, from progressive to conservative, and I believe our greatest strength comes from working together, not apart.
I will work across party lines, bring people to the table, and focus on solutions that reflect the will of our community. When we choose collaboration over division, we can move Kauaʻi forward together.
